Internet homicide can also be part of an Internet suicide pact or consensual homicide. Serial killers are murderers who target three or more victims sequentially, with a “cooling off” period between each murder, and whose motivation for killing is largely based on psychological gratification. According to Paul Bocj, the author of Cyberstalking: Harassment in the Internet Age and How to Protect Your Family , “The idea that a serial killer may have operated via the Internet is, understandably, one that has resulted in a great deal of public anxiety.

A New York City woman who dated the year-old suspected murderer whom police believe used dating apps to target his victims said he seemed like a “dream guy” at first, but that facade eventually faded when he allegedly attacked her six months later. Zynea Barney, 26, said she began interacting with Danueal Drayton last November after he messaged her on an online dating and matchmaking application, for “two days straight. Barney “wasn’t looking for love” at the time, so she said she ignored the messages at first, but she eventually replied.
Barney and Drayton were soon texting every day, and three weeks later, their conversations evolved to phone calls, she said. At the time, she says she found him to be a “real good guy” with his “head on his shoulders. Drayton stood out because instead of asking Barney for photos of her body, like a “normal guy” would, he would inquire about her goals and dreams instead, she said.

Even when someone takes all the right precautions, sometimes app dating can go wrong. Sydney Loofe had hit it off with a woman from Tinder, and the second date seemed safe enough. But for Loofe, that second date would also be her last. Two people were charged on Monday with the murder of Loofe, a year-old woman from Lincoln, Nebraska whose body was found dismembered in garbage bags and thrown into a field in December.
Bailey Boswell, 24, and Aubrey Trail, 51, are currently in custody in nearby Saline County, awaiting trial for first-degree murder and the improper disposal of human remains. Friends and family were immediately concerned when Loofe failed to show up for work at Menards — a Midwestern chain of home-improvement stores — her car still parked in the driveway of her home.
Her mother, Susan Loofe, reported her missing on November 16th. It also states that the last of those messages came from Boswell at pm, alerting Loofe that she was outside the residence. While the data may be slight, Tinder-related murders have in fact happened in the past. In December , a year-old woman in Mexico City went missing after having gone on several Tinder dates with a guy her age.
